Competition Q&A and Additional Resources - Updated each day at 5pm until March 11th with queries submitted by email.

WHY ENTER?

Broadway is a one-of-a-kind avenue that could be alive and buzzing with activity - our hardest-working route running parallel to the river and through our city center. Instead, Downtown’s northern gateway is languishing when it could be a thriving urban boulevard.

In 2017 we will have a one-time opportunity with the municipal bond to change that reality with a catalytic streetscape redesign to include not just cars, but people on foot, bike, bus and beyond. With citizen leadership that has yielded initiatives like Maverick Dog Park and SA Department of Transformation along Broadway, we can build on existing gems like Brackenridge Park to breathe life into underutilized spaces like Mahncke Park, Maverick Park, the I-35/I-37 highway underpass, and provide model public spaces for San Antonio.

If you live, work, play, or travel along Broadway, now is your chance to join a community of support around a critical project and inspire visionary thinking among policy-makers, the development community, and your fellow citizens. Know a public space that needs to be reactivated? Show us how! Got an art or programming concept to breathe new life into Midtown? Let's hear it! Share your concept to create a vibrant place along Broadway between Hildebrand Ave. and Hemisfair Park by submitting a slideshow.

WHO CAN ENTER?

The competition is open to everyone living in the greater San Antonio area - citizens, community groups, students, politicians, designers and everyone in between. Architects, artists, and urbanists are encouraged to participate. Team entries are welcomed. Entrants should choose one category and submit their idea.

AWARDS?

For each of three Idea Challenges, one winning entry and one runner up will be selected. A People’s Choice Award will be selected using votes tallied at the March 30th event for a total of seven prizes.

(3) 1st Prize* -   $5000
(3) Runner Up*  -   $1000
(1) People’s Choice  -   $2000
Total Prizes  -   $20,000

* One for each of the three Idea Challenges described below

WHO WILL WIN?

The goal of this competition is to uncover the best ideas. To maintain anonymity, entries will be blindly judged without any information that identifies the authors. Ideas will be evaluated based on their ability to spark imagination and build excitement about the possibilities of Broadway.

Public voting for the People’s Choice Award will take place in-person at the Build Your Own Broadway Awards Night on March 30th at the Pearl Stables.
